Masai Trekking:
Day 1: We begin by driving to Lengijave village 25 km North of Arusha where we meet our Maasai guides and their donkeys. From Lengijave we begin the trek into the rift valley across open plains and acacia woodland, stopping for a picnic lunch under the acacia trees, where we may see browsing animals such as Giraffe and Grant's gazelle, plains zebra, white-bearded gnu, Thomson's gazelle, and ostrich. Our evening meal and overnight stay will be adventure camping at a scenic spot on the open plains.
Day 2: After breakfast, camp is packed away and we follow the trail as it winds through thicker bushland crossing some dry riverbeds towards the Kiserian rocks. These rocks tower on top of a hilly range and as we walk closer we become aware of the enormous size of these rock formations. The area is absolutely unspoilt and we may spot kudu, gerenuk and other antelopes. We may be fortunate to see elephants which at certain times of the year frequent the Kiserian area. The campsite is set among the rocky Kopjes. Kiserian in Maasai language means "be at peace''. This is what is experienced at camp with the night's silence only broken by the roar of a distant lion. Overnight stay adventure camping.
Day 3: After breakfast we walk towards the northeast, and towards a large dry riverbed. From here we will head towards the gorge, into beautiful acacia woodland which is frequented by impala, kudu, gerenuk and Grant's gazelle. Our adventure campsite is set on the slopes of a spectacular rock formation close to Olarida Goss offering breathtaking views towards Oldonyo Lengai.
Day 4: During the early morning hours the donkeys will be packed once more. The trail leads across a hilly area with rocky outcrops. In the distance we may spot a rock formation which resembles a huge strawberry. Late in the afternoon we will reach our destination at the foot of Muriatata hills and enjoy the views across the vast acacia woodland towards the north and the snow covered summit of Kilimanjaro to the East. At the Muriatata Camp far away from human settlements in the heart of the East African bushland, we enjoy the last night adventure camping under the African stars.
Day 5: An extended breakfast is followed by a light walk within the surrounding Muriatata hills. On our way back the track heads across North Maasailand arriving in Arusha in the late afternoon to connect with onward arrangements.
